Apotheosis of Homer

This painting made by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in 1827. The coloring in this painting is interesting more color than has been used compared to other art work before this. There is still a major color contrast to bring attention to the parts they want detailed. This art work still holds onto the religion influence with having angels and a centered godly being. Less clear lines in this style, doing more blending into the surroundings.

Oath of the Horatii

This painting was made by Jacques-Louis-David and completed in 1785. This artwork has strong color contrast to keep the attention in the front and out of the background that has less detail. It has some more violence than some of the previous artworks but it seems to be in defense of others so likely playing into religion standing up for others. The shading does allow the artwork to have a form like view making the columns have depth.

Virgil reading the ''Aeneid'' to Augustus and Octavia

Painting by Angelica Kauffman released in 1788. Following with the theme of the dark colored background with brighter colors on the focus pieces. The artworks in this era seem to be very centered with the details and focus. The background with buildings and sky give the 3 dimensional feel into the picture. These people seem to be higher ups in the social classes which have always seemed to have the influence on how the art looks.

  1. I absolutely love the paintings you've chosen for this blog, particularly "Apotheosis of Homer." The artist expertly utilized primary and secondary colors to create a vibrant and captivating piece. The way several characters are directed towards the divine figure clearly underscores his significance within the painting. I would definitely want to own this artwork and display it in a serene setting, like a chapel. This is a fantastic post!
