First Blogging Assignment

     Hi, my name is Brian Bieshelt. I am a senior mechanical engineering student. I work in the Space Systems Engineering Lab on campus, mainly tasked with finishing one of the satellites that is being developed there. I am originally from Southern Maryland and transferred up here two years ago.

    I do not have a very good relationship with art. At every step of education, including now, I have been required to take and participate in art courses. They tend to be my lowest grades in my academic career. I am pretty bad at drawing, painting included in that, seem to always manage to make it worse when trying to correct 'imperfections'. I used to do quite a bit of welding and currently doing machining and design of functional parts. In some fields this can be considered an 'art' but it is more in reference to making something look professional without sacrificing any functionality. I do not own any art. I do not know what First Fridays are. I have been to a couple art museums following others desires, but I do not like them myself.

    Hi Brian! I totally understand where you're coming from when it comes to art. I have never been gifted when it comes to drawing or painting and seem to get into my own way more often than not. Having tried welding a few times before I would consider a good welder an artist themself with how much technique and vision is required.

  Terracotta column-krater This is a work accredited to Lydos from 550 BCE, it is an Ancient Greek bowl that has been painted. These style paintings are always interesting to be because of how easy they are able to display movement in a painting. The curvature of the vase assists in this but also the way the objects are painted to act as if they are walking. The contrasting colors make it easy to distinguish details in each object as well as the shape lines within the objects outlining details giving it more of a 3 dimensional feel. This painting seems to rely more on lines to create the form in the objects instead of changing the value of the colors.  Alter of the Kings                The Alter of the Kings created by Jeronimo de Balbas, it is a sculpture in a catholic church in Mexico City, Mexico. It was created by Jeronimo de Balbas, a Spanish artist. This was connected to the Council of Trent, promoting the Catholic Church. This art work was credited completion in 1737, this was about 200 years after the Council of Trent but still is displaying praise of the characters in the catholic church.      The art work does a good job of using lines to draw the views eyes around the artwork being able to see of the talent and elements that went into the creation. It is a very large piece, they used the space very well to put mass amounts of detail but to also be able to organize it in ways like putting god above all others.
